The number of visitors to the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz shot up over the past year as Poland's entry into the European Union and budget airlines have made travel to the region easier, officials said
Wednesday.
More than 370,000 people visited the notorious camp in southern Poland in the first six months of the year, up from 240,000 over the first half of 2004, said Antoni Stanczyk, director of the tourist section of the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial and museum. (AP)
