Knesset Member Amir Peretz (One Nation) said he suffered a serious blow, following the decision not to allow him to hold the positions of Histadrut chairman and Knesset member simultaneously.

Speaking to ynet on Wednesday, Peretz blamed members of the Likud, Shinui, and National Union parties for initiating the law, in an attempt to remove him from the political arena.

The law, which was today approved by Knesset committee, will force Peretz, who is a candidate for the Labor Party chairmanship, to choose between his commitments to the Histadrut national union and his Knesset sear.

“I hope we manage to overcome this obstacle,” said Peretz. “As long as the atmosphere continues to heat up, I see a greater challenge in my mission. The Likud has lost its grip on the reins, and this latest maneuver has simply proved it.”

Peretz added that was not worried about the change in his status, even if it appears that he is heading for political meltdown.

“Political moves don’t make me sad,” he explained. “The political merry-go-round is huge, and sometimes it looks like you are going to crash. But this wheel never stops. I’ve already survived moments in the past where it looked like I was heading for a crash.”
