Man charged over attack on Palestinians
West Bank settler confesses to shooting, says he fired in self-defense
TEL AVIV – Daniel Finner, 29, from the northern West Bank is facing an indictment over a shooting attack on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip two and a half weeks ago.
The incident in question took place on the afternoon of June 18, after a group of youngsters staying at the “Maoz Hayam” hotel embarked on a walk in the direction of the settlement of Shirat Hayam.
The firing started the chain of events that led to the eventual raid on a Gush Katif hotel where far right activists were barricading themselves.

During the walk, a brawl broke out between the Israelis and a group of Palestinians.
Right-wing activist slams decision
According to the indictment, Finner used his weapon during the brawl and wounded one Palestinian in the leg. The shooting victim was taken to a Khan Younis hospital in moderate condition.
Immediately following the attack, the far right youngsters claimed the Palestinians attacked them and said they hurled stones at them and use bars and sticks.
The suspect in the shooting was identified by the Judea and Samaria police following an intelligence tip. Finner was brought in for questioning and confessed to the shooting, but said he fired in self-defense.
Prosecutors, however, decided to indict him on charges of causing an aggravated injury and illegal use of arms.
Meanwhile, right-wing leader Arieh Yitzhaky slammed the decision.
“In this crazy reality…the assailants become innocent lambs while the victims themselves are charged with breaking the law and attempted murder.
