“Negative facts about Elhanan Tenenbaum were held by authorized sources before he was kidnapped – and were not passed over to the IDF,” wrote the outgoing State Comptoller, Judge Eliezer Goldberg, in a letter to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
According to Goldberg, “we are talking about a general security failure, and about a specific failure to conduct a security assessment of Tenenbaum.” However, the judge added that the decision to return Tenenbaum to Israel, along with the bodies of 3 IDF soldiers in January 2004, was not flawed.
