TEL AVIV – Good news for soldiers tasked with executing pullout.

Some IDF troops slated to take part in the upcoming disengagement will receive additional pay during their time at the areas to be evacuated, Ynet has learned.

Soldiers doing their mandatory services are expected to receive a small raise, while career officers are expected to see a bonus of hundreds of shekels.

IDF manpower officials have been discussing how to characterize the activity of soldiers slated to take part in settlement evacuation. The definition has a direct bearing on the pay troops are expected to receive.

IDF confirms report

Generally, combat soldiers perform duties that enjoy the highest degree of categorization, and thus receive higher pay. However, troops who serve in IDF Home Front units perform duties that recieved lower categorization, and as a result usually enjoy lower pay.

However, the IDF has now decided these soldiers will enjoy a higher categorization during the time of the pullout, and would hence receive more money.

Overall, combat soldiers would not receive any bonuses, as they already enjoy a higher pay bracket. However, other troops are expected to see their salaries raised by about 15 percent.

This means that a regular soldier who makes about NIS 500 (approximately USD 110) will see salaries rise to about NIS 575 (approximately USD 125.) Meanwhile, career officers would enjoy a more significant raise, with those earning about NIS 5,000 (approximately 1,100) seeing their pay rise to about NIS 5,750 (approximately 1,250.)

The IDF has confirmed the Ynet report regarding the pullout bonus.

Yesha Council officials have meanwhile slammed Prime Minister Ariel Sharon over reports on the IDF’s intention to offer troops a “pullout bonus.”

“Sharon is not ashamed to buy off manpower that would help him carry out the twisted uprooting mission,” one official told Ynet.
