The Knesset has rejected a proposal by Knesset Member Effi Eitam to place responsibility for evacuating Gaza settlers on the police and to remove the army from the plan. Eitam told lawmakers an unnamed battalion commander told Chief of Staff Dan Halutz his soldiers would not take part in the operation, upon which Halutz moved the group to serve in another section of the West Bank to avoid possible refusal.
