Woman brutally murdered in Ashdod
Religious school student's body discovered in southern town; rescue workers: we can't remember such shocking case
ASHDOD - The crime wave continues: The body of a female of about 20 was found Wednesday near a construction site in the southern town of Ashdod.
The latest murder comes after a 15-year-old girl was strangled to death by a 16-year-old boy in recent days, an incident followed by a shooting attack that left a child and her aunt dead.
Rescue workers who found the body said they cannot remember ever seeing such a shocking case.
The murdered woman is an Ashdod resident who worked at a clothing store in Tel Aviv, studied at a religious school, and performed her national service (an option open to religious girls instead of military service) at a hospital in the south.
Police officials and forensics experts who arrived at the scene said they had difficulty identifying the body.
At 3 a.m. Wednesday, the woman's concerned family members informed police she had gone missing. Police sources say the family also recruited teams out of their own accord to help in the search.
'Incomprehensible and unforgivable'
Relatives and friends of the victim later gathered at the site of the murder.
"She was a good girl, quiet and smiling. She's didn't harm anyone, not even a fly," one relative said. "We're all stunned."
A passerby noticed the body at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and reported it to police. Paramedic Shiran Efrati promptly arrived at the scene with other rescue workers, but the woman was dead by that time.
Although paramedics are used to dealing with difficult incidents, the latest murder was particularly horrifying, Magen David Adom spokesman in the region, Shai Alzami, said.
"This time it was very difficult to see, something incomprehensible and unforgivable," he said. "After handling the body…Shiran Efrati naturally returned somewhat depressed and we offered that she take a vacation."
The victim's father also arrived at the scene to find out whether the body was that of his daughter, but police investigators gently pushed him away from the site.
