Drama down south: Shin Bet security personnel fired a warning flare Friday when a civilian Cessna plane erroneously entered a no-fly zone near Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s Sycamore Ranch in the western Negev.
The Cessna’s pilot, who was also signaled by an Israel Air-Force radar unit, immediately returned to his original course.
Early Friday fighter jets and helicopters were summoned to the Sycamore Ranch area following a false report of a parachute-like object hovering above.
Despite the fact that air-force radars did not detect the object, IDF officials decided to send the planes and helicopters as a precautionary measure.
Security officials told Ynet it is possible the initial report was either false or related to an aerial object that was flying in a different area.
Sharon left Tel Aviv and was headed to the ranch when the incident took place.
