TEL AVIV - An emergency situation was announced at Ben-Gurion Airport Thursday when an EL AL cargo plane fully loaded with hazardous materials radioed distress signals.
In its regular landing-prep routine, crewmembers discovered hazardous substances on board had spilled, putting the whole plane at risk of burning up.
Fire engines were called to stand by and rescue crews kept their fingers crossed, hoping the plane would land safely.

After the plane landed, specialists neutralized the spilled substance.
“This was definitely a dangerous situation,” a fireman said. “The guys really risked their lives in order to neutralized the substances,” he added.
