Omanis support Islamist detainees
Several hundred people protested Sunday against the trial of 31 Islamists accused of plotting to overthrow the pro-Western government of the Gulf Arab state of Oman, a rights activist said. The men are accused of forming an illegal group and "preparing to overthrow the regime by force to set up an imamate" (Islamic clerical rule) in Oman. The charges carry the death penalty. (Reuters)
